Facts About SOPHIA : The Most Advanced Robot

SOPHIA: A BIG LEAP TOWARDS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

History has been the witness of evolution. From dinosaurs to iPhone X, we have invented technologies to make our lives more convenient & fast. But what if, this evolution opens completely new doors to a world where we can hire a servant, cook, babysitter or trash picker who does things the way we programme it to do?

Have you heard of Sophia ?

No ?

Sophia is Hanson Robotics latest and most advanced robot till date and a cultural icon. She is a human like robot with expressiveness as close to a human as it can be. Sophia’s creator, Dr. David Hanson, is the founder of Hanson Robotics and a modern-day renaissance man who has built a worldwide reputation for creating robots that look and act amazingly human.

Question is what all can Sophia do?

See & Express

Cameras within Sophia’s eyes combined with computer algorithms allow her to see. She can follow faces, sustain eye contact, and recognise individuals.

Talk & Understand

She is able to process speech and have conversations using Alphabet’s Google Chrome voice recognition technology and other tools. Around January 2018 Sophia was upgraded with functional legs and the ability to walk. The software has been programmed to give pre-written responses to specific questions or phrases, like a chatbot. These responses are used to create the illusion that the robot is able to understand conversation.

Store & Analyse

The information is shared in a cloud network which allows input and responses to be analysed with blockchain technology. David Hanson has said that Sophia would ultimately be a good fit to serve in healthcare, customer service, therapy and education.

Sophia runs on artificially intelligent software that is constantly being trained in the lab, so her conversations are likely to get faster, Sophia’s expressions are likely to have fewer errors, and she should answer increasingly complex questions with more accuracy Even though, right now we cant expect much from Sophia, however this seems like a big leap towards AI. We might regret it or cherish it, only time will tell, as of now it seems like a great idea to explore & further expand the human reach from going to planets to creating, literally, new lives.

Sounds scary.. Isn’t it ?
