Features of SONY XPERIA Z
Design: Xperia Z is a super-slim phone with dimensions of 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm and weighing 146 g. Sony is introducing Xperia Z’s design as Omni Balance design providing minimal yet distinctive looks to the phone. The phone’s front and back are made of glass with enhanced reflection coating on the top, bottom and sides.
Apart from the screen, front of the phone also features a secondary camera used for video-calling and sensors above the screen, and a microphone below the screen. The back sports a primary camera and second microphone useful for noise cancellation.The right side of the phone hosts a SIM slot (covered by plastic flaps), power key, volume keys and loudspeaker. One of the biggest USPs about Xperia Z is that it’s water and dust resistant. The phone is certified by IP55 and IP57 rating making it work even under water, having ability to click pics in rain or beside pool, cleaning it by water from every day’s spills and dirt.
Display: The major portion of the phone’s front is taken by 5” Full HD (1080p) display equating to 443 ppi pixel density. Xperia Z shares Bravia Engine from Sony delivering better viewing experience with features like color management, contrast enhancement, noise reduction, etc. Sony is also calling Xperia Z’s display technology as Reality Display which automatically adopts to the content being displayed on the screen.
Hardware: Xperia Z is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core 1.5 GHz processor accompanied with 2 GB RAM. The snapdragon processor is asynchronous, due to which each is powered up and down independently depending upon the tasks being performed on the phone. The phone has Adreno 320 graphics processor helping in providing stunning visuals for games and also helping to browse web smoothly. It has internal memory of 16GB which is expandable up to 64GB via microSD cards.
The phone is fueled by non-removable Li-ion 2330 mAh battery. It uses a smart mechanism for saving battery called STAMINA mode. STAMINA mode can turn off Wi-Fi and other battery draining services and applications during stand-by, while giving access to calls, text messages, etc. It can easily be customized according to one’s need. On connectivity front, phone offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, MHL (Mobile high-definition link), DLNA, NFC (Near field communication), etc.
Software: The phone runs on Android JellyBean 4.1 version, with Sony promising for upgrade to 4.2 in near future. The project butter initiated by Google makes interactions on Xperia Z very smooth. Sony has given its own custom launcher on top of Android. Although, its Mediascape and Timescape widgets are gone. It also has few widgets like social services, connectivity toggles, Walkman player, etc. Sony also has some ‘small apps’ such as calculator, notes, timer, etc which pop up a tiny application on your home screen and can be used without the need of opening any dedicated app.
Camera: The phone is equipped with a 13 MP camera capable of recording 1080p videos @ 30fps. The camera have lots of automatic and manual settings for clicking pictures. Xperia Z also has option of taking pictures while shooting a video, albeit still pictures are only of 1 MP. Sony has given its camera technology- Exmor RS to the Xperia Z’s camera due to which the pictures come out really good.
Conclusion: Xperia Z is a complete package with top of the line hardware, great display and Sony’s wonderful technology. After parting their ways with Ericsson, Sony has truly created one of the best smartphones in high-end range.
