Vivo Y55L First Impressions: This One is Here to Stay!

There seems no end to it. Chinese manufacturers are launching smartphones one after the other to have an edge over the competition, and most of them turn out to the really good. One such company is Vivo, which has just launched its budget smartphone Vivo Y55L. Y55L – an upgraded version of Y51L at a price of Rs. 11,980. We got our hands on the device and here are our first impressions.

Design – The design language of the Vivo Y55L is simple yet functional. While the metal finish on the back gives premium finish, its build seems quite sturdy. The front has a 5.2-inch display along with three capacitive navigation keys below it. The back houses the main camera unit along with an LED flash and two antenna lines. Y55L will be available across India in two colors: Gold and Space Grey.

Display and Software – Coming to the display, Vivo Y55L has a quite vivid display and colours come out really well. Despite sporting a 720p resolution, one doesn’t have any issues while looking at the display from a certain distance. Credits to vividness of the display also go to the Funtouch UI, which in itself is quite colourful while being based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

Also, the Y55L is one of the few devices in the market to sport the octa-core Snapdragon 430 CPU. The processor felt quite efficient on the device and the performance was satisfactory in our initial testing with its 2 GB of RAM. Though Vivo’s UI is a bit heavy, the combination of its RAM and processor will be able to take the load. We will detail about the performance once we review the device completely.

Camera – On the camera front, the smartphone is likely to be a winner too. In our initial impressions, the camera performed quite well. The few images we clicked came out to be good in colour reproduction and sharp with spot on focus. The camera on the Vivo Y55L seems to give a tough competition to the similarly priced smartphone.

Battery & Other Notable Points – It is a dual SIM smartphone and measure just 7.5 mm in thickness. With that size, the battery capacity has been compromised a bit and it sports a 2650 mAh battery. On paper, this seems not according to today’s standards, but we really hope that the battery backup results shall be better. All in all, the phone is capable of doing all the basic stuff and it didn’t disappoint in the initial run. And for the detailed review, we’ll have to wait a bit.
